Located along the waterfront on Harbour Island, Queen Conch is the headquarters for a daily dose of fresh conch salad. A conch (pronounced~konk) is a mollusk that’s basically a marine snail. First, the insides are scooped out of the rosy shell. You are witness to the process as fishermen use a special knife to carve the wiggling meat out of the shell, which sometimes hides large, pink pearls. The main ingredients for conch salad are tomato, onion, green pepper, lime juice and at Queen Conch, a dash of sour orange juice, which is a cross between an orange and a lime. A special pepper sauce ... |

The Food Network is one of the most popular television channels to watch. So no wonder why brides are asking for more artistic presentation of their reception dinner. Even if it’s, “Just Chicken,” it better be beautiful! Food styling is actually the wrong term; it should be food presentation but most people are saying ‘styling’ because they want the style of restaurant food for their wedding reception. So how do you begin? You start with the catering manager and the Chef as this will be considered to a certain extent, a customized menu. We always like elements that are stacked... |
Filed under: Cakes and Catering, Alternative WeddingsLooking to add some European flair to your wedding reception fare while encouraging your guests to mix and mingle? Your perfect solution lies in a tiny treat called tapas. The term tapas refers to "a wide variety of appetizers in Spanish cuisine" (thank you, Wikipedia). The concept behind serving tapas is that your guests are encouraged to share dishes and try a variety of different items instead of choosing beef, chicken, or fish for the main course. It's the same idea as serving heavy hors d' oeuvres, but with less shrimp cocktail and more ... |
I've decided that there are not nearly enough photographs of the food/meals served at weddings! I am a firm believer that your wedding inspiration extends past the tablescape and place setting and that a couple's food choice is also a very important (my stomach is correcting me and asking me to say most important) part of the design. Food choices are a reflection of the couple's taste and personalities, the season, the setting, and play a major role in setting the tone for the event. Is it a casual BBQ style? A fun cocktail/station event? A formal sit down with pa... |
To my mind food, drink and music are the three most important structural aspects of a party; the framework for the more ethereal connections between people and their ideas and emotions. This week we will look at food. I think food is particularly important at family celebrations. Feasting at family events is a tradition that crosses cultures and has very deep roots in our collective cultural history. For myself and Rachel preparing food with our families is very much a part of our culinary heritage and it was important for us and our families to be closely involved in the selection and prepara... |

Everyone knows what foods they are allergic to and will ask the waiter about the ingredients in any dishes they are concerned about. No one will eat something they think will make them sick. It’s been a busy couple of weeks for myself and Paradise Dude. Last weekend he went to watch the British Grand Prix, leaving me to fend for myself, and then this week I had my graduation ceremony for the degree that I finished in January (long wait I know). This meant that families were up, driving us mad with endless questions about the wedding, which I’m sure that we’ve answered before or can’t answer yet, like who’s staying in which rooms in the hotel. “Well dad…” my answer started, “how can I know that if I haven’t had all the RSVP’s back yet?” Sensible answer I t... |
