Alyssa & Jose are planning a Papel Picado inspired wedding this summer. Their save the date featured a simple string of the delicate paper cuts featuring sentiments like "amor" & "love" with images of bird pairs & hearts. The save the dates were digitally printed with sapphire blue on 110 lb. paper with coordinating white envelopes. A design like this could be printed with letterpress, however with such a large amount of solid color, digitally printing works best to achieve consistent & opaque ink coverage. ... |
Today, we’re inspired by Papel Picado – a traditional Mexican folk art that is displayed during holidays or at special occasions such as weddings, quinceañeras, baptisms or baby christenings. These bright and colorful paper garland would make beautiful decorations at your wedding! photo credit: Dasha Wright on WedShare photo credits: 1. There are so many "titles" or "themes" that come to mind for this invitation suite because there were so many bits of inspiration behind them, but the Papel Picado is certainly the defining element. An emphasis on colors & patter were important for the bride, Harriet - they are her passion. She is currently working on her Phd in textiles, focusing on Indigenous Australian & Indonesian Ikat. She is an avid quilter using mostly her own, hand-printed fabrics as well as the ever beautiful Liberty of London fabrics. Harriet & her groom, Toby, have traveled th... |
Who doesn’t love the beautiful design of the Papel Picado (Mexican Flags)? We have done a few invitations incorporating this design, and were thrilled to repeat it in a different way with this natural palette. Vanessa contacted us (she is another sweet Chicago bride!) to help her with a fun destination wedding she will be having this winter. Her color palette is natural - krafts, browns, ivory, etc. We did a landscape design for the invitation, and did a color reversal. Most of the time, we use the darker colored stock as the back mount, with the lighter stock to print. We flooded the li... |
