Well, by now you know that we are all about the seasons around here.  But sometimes it’s nice to see an expression of seasons in a way that isn’t so typical.  Take autumn, for instance.  You think autumn wedding cake, your mind automatically goes to colored leaves.  But here’s another take on the colors of fall:  rich red roses. It was love at first sight when I saw this cake.  The simple buttercream finish is trimmed with a wide, black ribbon, elegant scrollwork, and the most beautiful deep red roses.  For an interesting contrast, the roses are paired with orchids.  ...

Happy Valentine’s Day, Everyone! Are you counting how many times I wish you that?  I hope not. Well, I mean, I can’t help it.  It’s the month of looovveee.  And thank goodness for it, since this is kind of a slow wedding time I had to show you this one.  I love the simplicity of it, with the breathtaking, full-blown, real roses trimming the cake.  Red roses are so sultry, don’t you think?  Almost daring you to gasp at their brazenness.  But here, they are tempered with the innocent-looking white roses, which seems to calm the whole thing down just a bit.  The ...

I’m not feeling very subtle today. So I went in search of a cake that would set Brooke convention (you know, beachy, classic, pearls, blah blah blah) on its head.  And this is what I found. Isn’t this stunning?  Bands of different red hues encircle an otherwise simple three-tiered round cake.  A band of white is added on the top and bottom layers for contrast, and the whole thing is trimmed out in sumptuous, haughty, full-blown, redder-than-red sugarpaste roses.  Fondant ribbon completes the look.  This cake, my friends, is a drama queen.  And I LOVE HER. Really, I think the ...

I know.  Not the most cutting edge cake I’ve ever featured.  But really.  Look at it.  It’s beautiful. There is something so wonderful about simplicity.  A single color.  A motif repeated over and over.  Color carried through various design elements. I guarantee you that many people overlooked just how pretty this cake was.  ”Seen one white cake, seen ‘em all.”  But the artist really paid attention here.  See how the size of the sugarpaste roses gets slightly larger with each layer?  And notice that the whites match, and the bisque porcelain topper insp...

Hey y’all! I featured a link to this beautiful cake a few weeks back in my Let Them Eat Cake Sunday Round-Up. But I loved it so much that I reached out to the Wedding Chicks girls and asked if we could show it off in its own post. Roses are just so pretty, and never, ever go out of style. And there’s not an ugly one out there, you know? Every color, every variety. They’re so pretty, and ladylike, and classic. They’re old-fashioned, and yet they never go out of style. I also love that there are so many ways that you can interpret a rose for a cake. You can, of cour...

We love a little pop of color in a wedding, and this one was just incredible. Jenny and Aashish sought to bring together her Midwestern background with his Indian heritage, and the result was one of the most stunning weddings I’ve ever seen.  Of course, I’m a sucker for cranberry red, so that might be part of it…I would TOTALLY wear that bridesmaid,s dress again. But of course, the cake is the star of OUR show.  And the cranberry red shows up here, too.  Three simple layers, decorated with a mehndi-inspired paisley motif in gold, trimmed with cranberry red ribbon, and topp...
