Photos: Getty Images; courtesy of The Royal Collection What do 60 years on the British throne get you? Lots and lots of diamonds. To commemorate this milestone year in her reign, Queen Elizabeth will offer the public access to some of the monarchy's most precious jewelry, namely two-centuries worth of diamonds. The show, called "Diamonds: A Jubilee Celebration," will open at Buckingham Palace in August. Among the baubles on display will be a 23.6-carat pink diamond set in a flower-shaped brooch (above) made from 200 smaller diamonds. Geologist J.T. Williamson discover... |
Who knew romance and baseball could ever mesh for a marriage proposal? Jumbo trons are an automatic “no no” when it comes to proposals so we had to get creative with Tim’s proposal to Kelsie, who has a huge…and I mean HUGE love for baseball. Tim said she wanted it to be romantic, personal, and original and that’s precisely what she got! Tim treated Kelsie to a romantic meal at her favorite restaurant. At dinner he handed her a gift which happened to be a framed, old photograph of the Minnesota Twins Stadium (her ultimate love besides Tim). Although it completely foreshadowed ... |
Approximately 80% of all natural diamonds mined today are not of gem quality, the kind found in most engagement/bridal and traditional jewelry. Most of these lower-quality diamonds are used for industrial purposes and because of their hardness are used to cut other materials and other diamonds. Heard of the diamond tipped drill bit? Most of these diamonds are discolored, heavily included or only semi transparent. Photo Credit: Ruff&Cut “Natural” diamonds do offer some additional benefits however: they come in a variety of colors (from pale grey-green to lemon, light chocolate to... |

If you're concerned about blood diamonds or just the environmental impact of diamond mining, you may be looking for alternatives. Anna-Mieke Anderson became involved in the diamond simulant industry after learning about the history of her own diamond engagement ring. She researched conflict-free diamonds, but decided that just wasn't enough. She eventually found out about diamond seeding, a technology first developed by NASA. The resultant stones are hybrids that are both simulant and man-made diamond crystal... |
Filed under: Rings, EngagementA little background on the diamond for you. Once upon a time, a bride didn't always receive an engagement ring, and when she did, it could contain any of a variety of stones -- or none. In fact, in the 1930's, the value of diamonds in Europe had recently tanked, making people there reluctant to buy them.So DeBeers, the largest diamond cartel in the world, turned its marketing attention to the States. That slogan we all know so well, "Diamonds are Forever", was part of DeBeers' advertising campaign of the 1930's. Now, a solid 80% of US brides get diamond engagement... |

It's been said that diamonds are a girl's best friend. As for me, I am rather partial to chocolate. Many of you may not want to admit it but I know I am not alone. I will proudly stand and confess, "Hi. My name is Nicole and I am a chocoholic!" So what could be better than chocolate diamonds? Except for Mr. Right of course. While I am a confessed chocoholic, I do realize that sometimes a moment on the lips can lead to a lifetime on the hips. That being said, diamonds are forever. I could stare at this beautiful chocolate diamond engagement ring all day and not gain a single pound. Who wouldn't ... |
