Lisianthus, like the rose, is actually available all year round, but unlike the rose, has a very strong summer season. Here in southern California, the local lisianthus begin to appear around late June to early July. Lisianthus is a beautiful flower with multiple cupped blooms per stem. They come in a good variety of wedding colors such as deep purple, lavender, white, ivory, buttery yellow, light green, and pink. You can also find unique purple and white bicolor lisianthus. What I love most about lisianthus are the delicate feathery and fluttery petals. Most lisianthus I see at the flowe... |
Along with my current penchant for waxflower, huge peach roses and gypsophila is…. Lisianthus. I love the wide range of colours available (purple, blue, bright fushia….) and it seems to be a particularly hardy flower (the stems we had from our stand at NWS lasted well over a week afterwards). I’ve got to admit my favourite kind are either the innocent plain white or the pink-tipped pretty variety. Any of you lovelies having Lisianthus for W-day? Yes? Jealous. A few weeks ago I did a blog post on a wedding we did at Halcyon House. Here are a couple of photos from the actual photographer. Since the client wanted to keep their privacy – we only have these two photos – but they still give a better look at the flowers than what I did with my camera! The bride opted for pretty little arrangements of lisianthus on cocktail tables! (photos courtesy of Cappy Hotchkiss)... |
We had such a beautiful wedding this past weekend at Halcyon House. I am waiting for the photographer to send me better photos as these were taken by me (not bad if I say so myself)! The bride’s bouquet was made with phaleanopsis orchids, white lisianthus, white garden roses and white mini calla lilies. We had very simple boutonnieres and corsages for their wedding with lisianthus for the mothers and the ushers/fathers and a phaleanopsis orchid for the groom! Here is a close up of one of the arrangements with lisianthus and garden roses. This was from a simple ceremony table. Can... |
Although we are technically still in the throws of Spring – it feels like summer here in DC! I was so excited to get these images back from Rodney Bailey from a wedding we did with Sara Bauleke from Bella Notte at the Willard earlier this Spring. The bride loved the peachy and pink combination of roses with cymbidium orchids with a dash of lisianthus and freesia for her bridesmaids and her beautiful white chuppah! Stay tuned for more images form her wedding later this week! ... |
Photo: Courtesy of Steven Bruce Design A dose of pretty for your day: I love the sweet, garden-y sensibility of this springtime bouquet and centerpiece, both created by Steven Bruce Design. The bouquet includes freesias, stock, dusty miller, jasmine vines, raspberries, green brunia, lisianthuses, scented geranium, ranunculuses, waxflower, roses, tulips, succulents, and calla lilies, tied together with wool yarn. (I think the design would look particularly fetching with one of the gowns in Anthropologie's new BHLDN line.) The mini terrarium centerpiece features moss, rock shards, lisi... |
This is a continuation from the floral design post from Candace and Chris Ourisman’s wedding at the Ourisman home. We just simply had flowers everywhere! Too much to post in one blog post! Above is Candace’s bouquet with garden roses, hydrangea, snowberries, freesia, rosemary, lisianthus and scabiosa. We finished her bouquet with a hand-dyed silk ribbon to match her beautiful gown from Jorge Manuel. As we mentioned in our previous post – we have a whole new “fleet” of white milk glass from this wedding. We scoured local antique markets and a few other places and found som... |
We had lots of fun with the details at Leah and Aidan’s wedding! (Like starting with these gorgeous blush pink shoes and her vintage yellow garter!) Aidan’s lapel flower was created with white lisianthus with a fern curl accent. They used our manzanita trees with hanging votives for half of the centerpieces while the others were our signature cupcake trees that guests placed their votives on! They had an absolutely adorable guest book table! Instead of an actual “guest book”, they had the guests write a note to the bride and groom for them to open later in life! The beautiful an... |

Please forgive the instagram photos – it was the only camera I had on hand this week! Above is another couple of shots from the wedding we did on Friday last week in Bethesda! The bridal bouquet was filled with roses, peonies, ranunculus, lisianthus and orchids! The mother’s corsage was simple with white cymbidium orchids and a pretty pink ribbon to tie it to her wrist. Stay tuned for more real wedding photos!... |
