A great idea for those guests not interested in the bar -- have your waiters pass soda bottles fashioned with colorful straws around the cocktail hour. You could also do this with old-fashioned cream soda and root beer too! > Get more cocktail hour ideas Photo: Heather Saunders Photography... |
Food service alone is one area that often feels so expected. A standard plated first course and entree can make your event feel like any other. At Fete, we use service to set a distinct tone. For the first course at this wedding (see menu listing below), waiters walked around with 3 different types of pasta. Referred to as “Russian” service, guests could try all three and have seconds if they wanted. Waiters passed the pasta until the course was ready to be cleared. Remember that you have options for every element of your event! ... |

Blogger: Brittany Blando Photography by: © BKB Photography My caterer has three different options for service: Regular plated service, Russian service, and French service. What is the difference? Regular plated service means that when guests sit down at their seat there are no plates. Meals are plated in the kitchen and wait staff delivers them to each guest. For Russian service, the plates are all on the tables when your guests sit down, and the wait staff serves each guest from a platter for every course. For the main course there are usually several waiters, one to serve the meat and othe... |

I was at an event this evening and the caterer, Marcey Brownstein, had food served both by passed waiters and buffet style. But instead of the traditional buffet, she set up these cubed bookcases, which I'm pretty sure are from IKEA, and created an "Automat."The party's theme was the 1920s so an automat fit the theme well and guests were able to help themselves and waiters refilled the cubes from behind as needed. There were several cubes with votive candles and there were signs next to the food so you knew what you were eating. When working with your caterer ask them about alternatives to... |
Your catering contract will include gratuity for the waitstaff and it will usually be somewhere between 18 - 25%. This fee is not negotiable and since waiters, bussers and bartenders work for tips it would be rude, in my opinion, to try and cheat these workers. But when it comes to other wedding vendors my views on tipping may vary from others in the industry. The hair and makeup artist should be tipped if they work for a salon and are not independent contractors, meaning they are not self-employed. The same for drivers.I do not think you need to tip the florist, band, photographer, videogra... |
So many people deal with food allergies as well as dietary restrictions. Nuts, shellfish and gluten are a few common allergies. And diabetic, kosher and vegetarian are common dietary restrictions. When planning your wedding menu you do not have to think of every possible allergy or restriction. Plan your menu to fit your needs/wants and your fiance’s. Of course if your family is kosher you may choose to have a kosher wedding instead of kosher meals for a specific amount of guests.Every caterer will offer some vegetarian dish for a small percentage of guests who are vegetarian. You do not... |
